At Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. Celebrate the best of Houston’s vibrant music scene with a remarkable double feature bringing together two of Houston’s beloved music organizations, WindSync and Musiqa, for an evening of extraordinary performances. First, feel the syncopation under the stars as WindSync presents classical music with a distinctly American accent. Five accomplished wind performers – flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, and bassoon – join forces with celebrated pianist Jon Kimura Parker in a supergroup of Houston musicians with impressive national recognition. Known for his charisma and dynamic performances, Parker has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Sydney Opera House, and beyond. In his Miller Outdoor Theatre debut, he joins WindSync for a rare, conductor-free performance of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue — honoring the spontaneous, convivial spirit of the original jazz band version. For the second half of the evening, Musiqa and the Houston Cinema Arts Society (HCAS) reunite for a bold, genre-blurring program pairing experimental film with live performance. Featuring works by Dutch composer Jacob TV, French composer Florent Ghys, and Houston composers Marcus Maroney and Timothy Roy, this is contemporary music experienced in a whole new way. Woven throughout is Musiqa’s Sight & Sonic Houston Parade, a vibrant four-part film series celebrating Houston’s creative spirit through the lenses of filmmakers T. Lavois Thiebaud and James Templeton. More info at www.milleroutdoortheatre.com.
